Cut and Filter
Place an oil container—a 5-gallon bucket, an oil drain pan (available at auto parts stores), a sump, or another container that can hold a large amount of liquid—so that the oil can drain completely. It causes a disturbance locally or otherwise. Remember, it’s a lot of oil: most cars have at least a liter in the crankcase, and some even more.
Use the wrench on the right (counter-clockwise) to loosen the drain screw and unscrew it. Hold the drain plug firmly when removing; You don’t want the oil to run out when you pull the plug out of the sump and start filling. Allow the engine to idle for five minutes or until the oil flow is reduced to a drop.
